Strain Name: Romulan
Dominant Strain: Indica-dominant at 75% Indica / 25% Sativa.
Brief History: Romulan has a very interesting history. Back in 1996, Federation Seeds had in their possession a completed strain whose exact lineage and genetic makeup were unknown. Trying to rescue the strain and in an attempt to grow more, they took clones of the strain and crossed them with the award-winning, Indica-dominant White Rhino. Their offspring were then backcrossed several times until only a small amount of White Rhino’s genes remained, about 3% as the story goes. Today’s strain is what we know now as Romulan.
How Romulan got its name is another interesting story to tell. It began as a joke when users would joke around saying that the strain’s potency could “dent your head in” and cause ridges to form, much like those found in Star Trek’s warrior race, Romulan. The name stuck and so the strain was aptly named Romulan.
Romulan’s mind-bending, head-warping, full-body effects have been lauded in several cannabis magazines including Cannabis Culture as well as High Times.
Distinguishing Features: The buds of Romulan are short and stout but very dense. They are lime green in color with rich orange hairs weaving in and around each nugget. A rich layer of silvery-white crystals coat the buds. The leaves are large and dark green in color.
Cannabinoid and Terpene Profile: Romulan has a relatively high THC level between 20% and 24% with a CBD and CBN level of 1% respectively. Some tests showed that Romulan has a CBGA level of about 0.27% and CBC level of less than 0.01%.
Its terpene profile includes caryophyllene, humulene, terpinolene, myrcene, linalool, pinene, and limonene.
Flavors/Aroma: Romulan is known for its rich earthy yet pungent aroma with robust hints of pine. Some say you’ll also get scents of berries, cherries, and grapes. It tastes as good as it smells with its sweet and spicy yet woody flavor. You’ll also get a refreshing shock of citrus, sweet lemon, and pine.
Effects: An Indica-dominant strain, Romulan’s effects can be pretty potent. Careful dosing should be considered by new users and those with THC intolerance.
